APC East Kent delivery driver swaps her usual four wheels for two in aid of Pilgrims Hospice

A delivery driver from APC East Kent has swapped her usual four wheels for two in a cycling challenge in aid of Pilgrims Hospice in Canterbury.

Jacqi Woolf, from Herne Bay, is usually seen delivering parcels to the people of Kent from Ramsgate-based APC East Kent. This month however, she took on a different guise donning a “Puff the Magic Dragon” outfit for a 78 mile charity bike ride.

Dubbed the “girl with the dragon costume” Jacqi’s latest challenge builds on the riding success of last year which saw her cycle 300 miles from London to Paris over just four days, and 1,100 miles from the Land’s End to John O’Groats over 12 days. Jacqi’s continued commitment to Pilgrims Hospice, which helped care for her brother, Rikki Woolf, when he was terminally ill with pancreatic cancer, has resulted in her raising a total of over £2,000 for the charity to date – and she shows no signs of slowing down.

Despite a mechanical gear failure on her bike – and a less than ergonomic fleece dragon onesie –  Jacqi managed to finish the route in six hours alongside 1200 other cyclists.

Jacqi commented: “After last year’s epic cycle I knew I had to think of something a little different to make this ride a real challenge in order to help raise awareness and funds, so that’s where the dragon costume came in.

“I was a little nervous about how hot it was going to be in the suit but thankfully, while the weather was glorious, it wasn’t too warm and I didn’t overheat, which made for a wonderful ride. I received lots of comment and looks from my fellow cyclists, but the smiles only made the miles pass by more quickly.

“Pilgrims Hospice is a charity very close to my heart due to all the support it provided to Rikki and our family during his illness. I’m delighted I’ve been able to do something in return and would like to thank everyone who has sponsored me so far as they are helping to make a real difference to so many in the area.”
