Cheryl’s Fundraising Trek for Promise Dreams
In just nine months, our Payroll Manager, Cheryl Harvey, will take on an incredible challenge - trekking 68 miles across Cambodia to Angkor Wat to raise £5,000 for Promise Dreams, The APC’s chosen charity. This 10-day adventure will take her through rice paddies, farmlands and local villages, all while supporting a cause close to her heart.
Promise Dreams is a national charity dedicated to bringing joy to seriously and terminally ill children by fulfilling their dreams. Whether it’s a once-in-a-lifetime holiday, meeting their celebrity hero, or receiving specialist equipment to improve daily life, Promise Dreams helps create cherished memories for children and their families during difficult times.
We caught up with Cheryl to hear more about her journey, why she chose Promise Dreams and what this fundraising means to her.
Cheryl, why did you choose Cambodia for your trek?
"I’ve never been to Asia, and I’ve always wanted to experience its culture and landscapes. This trek felt like the perfect opportunity - not just to push myself physically but to do it for a cause that truly matters. I’ll be completely off the beaten track, seeing the real Cambodia, staying with local families and immersing myself in a completely different way of life. It’s going to be tough, but I know it will be worth it!"
You’ve completed charity treks before - how does this one compare?
"I completed charity treks in the Sahara in 2010 and Iceland in 2014, both of which were incredible experiences. This trek in Cambodia will be a completely new challenge - humidity, long distances and unfamiliar terrain will make it one of the toughest yet. But what makes it even more special is that it’s happening in 2025, which is a big birthday year for me. I wanted to mark the occasion by doing something meaningful - helping children and families who need support."
Why did you choose to support Promise Dreams and what does this fundraising mean to you?
"Promise Dreams is an incredible charity that gives seriously ill children the chance to experience joy and create lasting memories with their families. This trek is about more than just the challenge - it's about bringing happiness to children and families facing unimaginable difficulties. Knowing that every donation helps fulfil a special dream is truly rewarding and I feel privileged to support a cause that makes such a meaningful impact."
How can people support your fundraising efforts?
"I’ve set a target of £5,000, and so far, I’ve raised £1,575 - but there’s still a long way to go! Every donation, big or small, makes a difference and helps bring dreams to life for these incredible children. If you’d like to support me, you can donate through my JustGiving page. I’d be so grateful for any support!"
As Cheryl prepares for this challenge, we’ll be closely following her journey, sharing updates on her training and fundraising progress. We can’t wait to see her take on Cambodia and make a real impact for Promise Dreams.
