The APC retains Gold RoSPA for health and safety achievements

By APC Overnight on 11th June 2025

The APC - the largest independent parcel delivery network in the UK - has today received the internationally renowned Gold RoSPA award in recognition of its exceptional health and safety standards. This marks the second consecutive year the company has achieved the internationally recognised accolade, underlining its strong and sustained commitment to the health and safety of its people.

A RoSPA award is an annual recognition of businesses that prioritise health and safety across their operations. These accolades celebrate organisations at the forefront of safety practices - demonstrating their dedication to ensuring employees get home safely at the end of each workday. With almost 2,000 entries annually from over 50 countries, the RoSPA awards represent the largest and most influential health and safety programme in the world.

The APC has been awarded the prestigious Gold RoSPA Award in recognition of its comprehensive and proactive approach to health and safety. Key to this success has been the training of 32 staff members in IOSH-accredited courses, supported by regular Health & Safety Committee meetings. The company also introduced a range of creative engagement initiatives, including safety poster competitions involving employees’ children, scenario-based fire drills simulating blocked exits, and a company-wide quiz for ‘World Day for Safety and Health at Work’. These initiatives, underpinned by ongoing investment and a deeply embedded health and safety culture, have contributed to a 25% reduction in reportable workplace accidents for the firm.

Jonathan Smith, Chief Executive at The APC said: "Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and their health and safety will always be our top priority. We’ve worked hard to embed a strong safety culture across The APC, backed by continued investment in our practices and training. Receiving the RoSPA Gold Award again this year not only recognises those efforts, but highlights the collective commitment across the business in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our people."

Further strengthening its commitment to employee wellbeing, The APC expanded its support for women in the workplace in 2024. This included a trial programme providing free sanitary products for female staff and the development of a dedicated menopause support network. Championed by employees and the Health & Safety Committee, these initiatives reflect the company’s ongoing efforts to level the playing field and make logistics a more inclusive and welcoming industry for women.

Julia Small, RoSPA’s Growth Director, said: “The APC should be proud of the hard work and commitment to keeping people safe that has resulted in a RoSPA Award, which honours those organisations who have achieved the highest standards in health and safety in the workplace.”

“RoSPA regards The APC as a strong example of the importance of making accident prevention central to any successful organisation, not just for the benefit of employees, customers and clients, but also society as a whole.”
